Golf ball gear knob

Ok, I know this is a lame question, but if you don't know, then you don't know, do you? :embarassed:

I now have an original golf ball gear knob but when i went to fit it I found that the golf ball has no theaded part to match up to the gearstick.

So is this bit missing?
Or is the gear stick's threaded end a bodge by a previous owner?
Does your gear stick have a threaded end, or is it just a cut pole?

I could fin a bolt that fits the thread and then angle grind the out side edges off until it fits into the gear knob, or I could cut the threaded part of the gearstick off. If I cut the gearstick though the height will obviously be about 2" shorter and may feel wrong. :undecided:

So GTi owners with golf ball gear knobs, how does yours attach?

Reach around, it's only fair.

the gear knobs screw onto the thread on the end of the stick, so don't cut the thread off!
it sounds like the knob has been tampered with!

the threaded bit does come out, sounds like yours has gone missing. maybe another vw knob has the same insert that you can pinch from down the scrappy?
