Gear stick housing, ball, pin etc. AND gear knob query

Has anyone had the gearstick housing and ball replaced by a garage?
After the fiasco with replacing the bushes onh the gear linkage, I am thinking it may be worthwhile passing on the job to someone with a ramp.

as long as it's affordable.

Also, I now have an original golf ball gear knob but when i went to fit it I found that the golf ball has no theaded part to match up to the gearstick.
Is this bit missing?
Is the gear stick's threaded end a bodge by a previous owner?

Advice is appreciated as i dont want to just bodge it on!

Nope i did it myself. I would not trust a garage to do it.

Have a look in my project section. I did a write up there.

It will take a few hours and it is a bit of a pain in the arse to be honest. Not a job you wanna do twice.

As said, set aside an hour or so, its not too hard. I did it myself without even jacking up the car!  Though with the std 8v ride height theres plenty of room to get underneath
