Exhausting question
« on: 07 July 2006, 17:58 »
Sorry for the terrible joke. i was hoping someone would be able 2 help me, i was wondering firstly, would the manifold, and downpipe off a 16v KR engine would bolt bolt onto my 8v PB engine, and if it did would i be able to keep the rest of the system, or will that need to be replaced with 16v system, and finally, if i did need 2 replace the other boxes, would all the mountings be the for a 16 valve system cheers
Jon

manifold wont fit no, but the downpipe will mate to the 8v manifold.  The 16v system is 2.5" & the 8v system is 2", so you'll need a complete 16v system or have an adaptor made up :)

hmmmm interesting, sounds like a lot of work for not a huge gain, the main reason for me asking is my downpipe is blowing slightly, but i think i might just take the easy route and put another 8v downpipe on, unless anyone thinks it would be worthwhile going for the 16v downpipe back system?

Probably best to stay with the 8v set up, the cost of having a reducer made to mate the 16v and 8v fittings wont be worth the extra cost for the little (if any) gain

I'd go for a second hand genuine VW one, the GSF ones arnt much cop I've heard.  Plus for all the work it takes to get them in, you don't want to fit a part you might be disapointed with!

nope, the bolt patterns on a 16v are offset, whilst on an 8v they are in line.
