Cheers - I'll give it a good going over when I eventually collect it then!
I'm also going for metallic black, and I'm getting it lifeshined so hopefully that'll go someway towards keeping it in good nick.

If you don't mind me asking, who do you find best for insurance over here? my best quote is about £750 so far...

funny you should ask about Insurance...I'm about to renew next week...I have been with Admiral which came in at £675..but I got a quote  from a local place..J McWhirter in belfast ..and they came down to £600 after starting at £685 ...well pleased and I'd prefer a local office than an internet site if I can help it :-)

..beats the £1400 i was paying for the scoob every year

Yeah - I think I tried them and they weren't ompetitive at all.
I had been with Abbey Insurance recently and had a Saxo VTR insured for £380, they wanted about £1150 for a GTI!!!
I got the £750 quote from elephant.com and Abey said they'd match it. That's for two drivers, parked in a drive, and Class 1 business insurance. not to shabby.

Anyone taken their GTI off the long life servicing ?....

This thread seems to indicate quite a few are and dont think it's a good idea if you plan to keep the car past the warranty...

As a rule of thumb...

If its standard leave it alone and use variable as its setup for a standard car

If its chipped I would recommend 5000 mile oil and filter changes and change the major services to 1 year / 10000 miles
