mk4 interior in a mk3 can it be done?
« on: 31 March 2006, 12:26 »
are the sub fram mountin points on the front seats the same on the mk4 recaros as the standard gti mk3 points.

has anyone fitted mk4 interior into a mk3 before and what was involved?

is the rear bench awkward to fit? or simply the same as the mk3

cheers in adavance

anythings possible, its just a pain in the bum. as far as im aware you need to weld the subframes from the mk4 seats at the front and as for the backs its just trial and error with a bit of diy i think. the bench doesnt go straight in the the mk3 fitting points so it could be tough. but like i said, with the skill and the know how, anything is possible!

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..

yeah i know i fitted mk2 gti recaros to my first bug when i was 17 and that took me ages and was a pain in the arse. but i was wodering if it was an easy job or required modifacation. so its a subframe swap and messing with the rear bench.  if a mk4 interior comes up for cheap i will attempt this but if any one esle can shed some light on the subject it would be great.  cheers

There was a fella selling a Mk3 on ebay about 6 months ago that had done this!  He used Awesome and they fitted it IIRC, HTH.

Hi m8 I was after some info on this a bit since and just thought sod it I'm gonna go for it

Got some mk4 anniversary seats. The front part of the original mk3 seat where it anchors in needs to be taken of and a steel L plate welded in the locate the front of the mk4 seat. I used the existing runners and ground down the rollers on each side to fit.

So the fronts are in bit theres a bit of play back and forth. Now Im told that this can be remedied via some plastic insertion near the rollers but havent figured it out yet!?!?

The backs got totally rebuilt onto the existing mk3 bench so the mechanism is the same. Just a few more adjustments needed.

Havent got some pics yet but it looks smart with the GTI Recaro embroidered in red which stands out on the black 3dr mk3. I can mail u a pic of it but I'm still awaiting a decent pic of the interior. Ive just valetted it cos I'm taking 5ive before I start working on it again and I want to keep it clean.

If anyone else has any direction on this I'm all ears
