That was probably a 1.8 naturally aspirated GTi (125 bhp).
The 'plan' by VW for the N/A GTi's, as far as I'm aware, was to:-
Have (on the right as you look at the rear of the car), a GTi badge & either a 1.8 or 2.0 badge (depending on which engine, obviously), directly underneath the GTi badge.
However, the dealer numpties who were responsible for badging up the cars, did it any which way they felt like on the day/whatever badges 'Parts' had in stock on that day!
