I,m new please help GTI 16V 'v' VR6
« on: 08 December 2003, 15:42 »
I'm considering buying one of the above. I've had a Mk3 colour concept in the past but found it a little sluggish how much better will the above be? Also..,

Fuel Consumption. What MPG can I expect from each car?

What are the towing capacities for each car?

What are the running costs for each (Servicing etc)

Is the VR6 more to insure than a GTI 16V

Is the VR6's performance much better (if at all) over the GTI 16V?

Any other info you can offer me would be greatfully recieved.

yes of course a vr6 is faster.. but it depends how much oomph u want..

figures for here http://www.golfgti.co.uk/viewfeature.asp?featureID=11

i'd guess neither should have problems towing, i have no idea on fuel consumption.. i just fill it up when its low.. lol...

look into the into insurance side of things see how much of a scare u get for either!

Spookily enough ive just come on here to ask the very same question :o With VR6's costing roughly the same as an 8v or 16v im torn between them. I do a few miles a year so mpg is a factor. Also what should i look out for when viewing a VR6, head gaskets??

I get around 35-38mpg if i drive my 16valver steady, but if i have my lead shoes on that drops to 30ish, if not less, so it depends on how you drive it.

I dont think the VR6 will cost you that much more to insure.

And yes it is Faster than a 16valver! in  both acceleration and top end speeds.

I hve no idea on servicing costs, but would personally stay away from stealership servicing costs, and find a good competent local garage.

Hope this helps, and good luck searching for for mk3

Both 16v and vr6 are good motors. Vr6 just has that extra edge on performance.

Good luck!
