I hate black ice!!!

About three hours ago i was almost home after a night at the cinema taking it easy, when only a few meters from home i went round a gentle bend at 20mph and ended up sliding in a straight line smack into the kerb!
My poor old gti bounced off with hell of a bang which was followed by a very loud rubbing noise. When i stopped i got out to look at the damage and to my horror the wheel was stuffed into the back of the wheel arch and sitting at a stupid angle. On closer inspection i need a new tyre, alloy and lower wishbone and cos its xmas, im skint so...

Anyone have any idea how much an original '97 2.0L 8v alloy and lower wishbone will cost? Also, if this has happened to anyone before, how much did it cost roughly to fix cos i dont know whether its worth claiming on my insurance.

P.S Dont bother going to see SWAT - its pants!

lol at S.W.A.T remark, I have heard that too.........

Before you mention it to your insurers you should get 3 quotes for repair, ask the insurer how much your excess is and take it from there. Personally I would not claim for anything under ?300 after the excess has been deducted.

Cheers mate - ive decided to not bother with the insurance as i dont want to loose my no claims discount. Ill just have a merry xmas and slap all the bills on my credit card!

hard luck matey!!, im afraid you and dizzie arent the only ones slidin about!!!!!!, lost me mk2 the other night but held on and got it back!!, that bloody ice comes from nowhere!!! the old gritters arent much cop round here so they dont help matters!!!! oh well lets all drive safely and have a good xmas and new year!!!!  :D :D :D

i hear volks-a-part are quite reasonable on wishbones, ?30 ish.

I finally had someone look at the damage - the alloy is ok, just very scratched but ill need a new lower wishbone, tyre, anti roll bar bushings and a new driveshaft!
Bugger!
Take it easy out there everybody this xmas so u dont end up with a broken GTI from santa.
