Mk4 Alarm locking issues
« on: 01 June 2006, 08:50 »
Hello all , i had a little problem yesterday where my car decided to arm its alarm and deadlock itself , with the keys still in the ignition !!!!     with me standing outside the car looking in !

so then .... i should call someone to help but alas im also staring in at my phone on the dash board... and im pretty much miles from nowhere

So now after thinking for 10 mins on how and what to do ... i find a real big heavy block of wood ... and even after 18 huge swings at the back door window ... still wouldnt break !

Luckily i stopped a passer by who had a mobile so i contact the RAC who evetually gained access after 45 mins of trying ... very secure these Golfs... however the problem is ...

Why did it do this and is it a regular issue or ... start of a big problem ?

any help would very much be appreciated

regards all

I'll have to check my manual but something rings a bell about being able to set the convenience unit up so that it locked you in as soon as you put the keys in or turned the ignition. Its some sort of security feature that can be enabled. Can't remember exactly, but does the car usually lock you in before you set off on a journey?

as rhyso said, i have this sort of problem with my boot catch....

"i open boot... 30seconds later all doors lock and alarm goes off".....unless i open a door first.

sounds like your door switch has had it... unfortunately they come as a complete module (cost @ £90 from stealer)..... i changed mine using a salvage part from parts gateway, i got one for  £32 all in and delivered (works fine )

i just gotta change my boot catch now

Knackered switch.  There is a convienience module to lock the door as I've got mine switched on, it only locks the doors when you go over 10mph tho

aye deffo fooked switch... if you unlock the car and dont open a door, it will auto lock 30 secs after, no ,matter how ecu etc is set... so if one of the common door witces is fooked this would cause the same effect, open, keys in ig.. then get out doors closed ect, because door thinks its still closed (never opened cause switch fooked), then it will auto lock... hence your problem...

change your door switch and probs solved
