Phantom problem
« on: 14 May 2006, 19:08 »
Hello,

On Thursday I drove up to London from Brighton and my 96 Mk III 2.0 8v ran fine all the way.  When I got there I stopped the engine and it wouldn't hot start again.  Instead it just made the 'click' noise that you get when the battery is flat.  I got my helpful mate to push my car and bump started it.  Finished my journey and parked up.  I stopped the engine and the starter still wouldn't turn.  The next morning the car started with no problems off the key.  Since then I have cold and hot started it a few times and the problem seems to have dissappeared.

Does anyone know what this might be or had this happen to them as I don't want it to happen again when I haven't got my helpful mate in the car to give me a push!

Thanks

get your starter solenoid checked (if it does it again and your stuck hit the solenoid with something!)

yeah.. also check just the quality of the connection to the solenoid.. it can get corroded so bad the connection is intermittent
