mk1 golf Engine mounts
« on: 27 May 2006, 11:02 »
I've just been to GSF this morning and they do a complete Bush kit for 60.00 which includes the engine mounts - but its for the mk1 Golf GTI and not the cabriolet - does anyone know if the cab mounts for a 92 golf GTI (1.8) are the same or different.

Here are the mount details from ETKA for a mk1 golf cabriolet

W171 199 125 - rubberwash
W171 199 214 Stock Mounting - F
W171 199 214 Stock Mounting - H
W171 199 151 Stock RUBB Mount

thanks.

Well I took the engine mounts back to GSF this afternoon (had engine out again!!!) - and the Bush kit from GSF was the right kit so I bought it and installed all new engine mounts in the car (note the side mounts you still use the orginal mounts, but put Prothane mounts in between the orginal ones - its made alot of difference as I don't get alot of engine movement now :)

Will be install other bushs later on.

What you get in the kit is the following;

Ft Trailing Arm busing Set 75-84
Rr - Axle Bushing kit 75-84
Ft Motor Mount
Rr Motor Mount
Motor Mount insert 2.530 DIA L or R
Motor Mount insert 2.943 DIA L or R
Rack and Pinion Bushing kit 75-84
Rr Shock tower bushing set 75-84
Strut Adjustable Bump Stop 75-84

ok some advice for all mk1 cab owners - if you upgrade your engine mounts - get ready to be shaken all over the place inside the car.... all that movement the engine makes goes back into the car itself.... so I'm now changing my front and rear engine mounts to standard new mounts....
Left and right mounts I have left with the upgraded Prothane mounts....

I've just installed a Turbo diesel lump from a mk2 into a mk1 caddy and those engine mounts are total very *friendly* persons to change. the cam belt one I'm refering to. the other 3 are good girls!

dude changing them isn't the issue - the upgraded mounts - stop all engine movement, which then transfers this movement into the vehicle itself, thus making the right worst....

Just be warned people.... if you want a lovely smooth rider for your car, then replace engine mounts with standard mounts and not upgraded mounts.
