« on: 22 April 2006, 20:39 »
Hi i was just wondering which was the best carb for a mk2 golf 1.6 driver

is it best to stick with the Pierburg or splashing out and getting a weber carb.

i want best proformance and i have apowerflow exhaust fitted so i want the best carb for that. and i know with the Pierburg you can get K&N proformance filters can you get them with then weber carb

some oppinions would be cool

hello buddy, i have a weber for my 1.6 it makes a hell of a difference plus i have a gti cam and it does respond ALOT better than it used to and revs sooo much higher than with the standard pierberg and cam. if you have £200 sitting around get the carb mate. i had to because my pierberg was sh*t.

another bit of advice if you do get the cam and carb get it all set up properly by someone who knows what there doing, because when i got mine done some monkey did it and didnt set the timing up properly and carb was running way to rich etc so got a mate to help me do the timing 1 day and now it runs sweet. (cheers joe )

your best bet is to keep your pierburg but ensure its working properly, when it is its better than a weber, its a VERY good carb when all the bits are doing theyre jobs, dont get me wrong webers are good but its only cause they tend not to go wrong as they are much simpler, also if you want a better cam ill have an 8v GTI cam to sell soon, yours for a 10er

There is no performance difference between a webber & 2e2 carb, if its working properly, and on a standard engine.

If you are going to start bulting on GTI cams, zausts etc then you should consider getting a webber as they can be tuned to get the most out of the mods.  Saying that Haribo's seems to run fine with a gti cam & std 2e2 :)
