The exhaust warning light has just come on, on my year old GTI ....handbook, just says reduce speed and take to nearest dealer...anyone had this fault ?...that's it stuck in the garage now all weekend  sometimes I wish I had my Impreza back ...hopefully it'll be something simple.

Exhaust warning light ?
Is that the same as the emissions light on the Leon ? Probably came on two or three times over the life of the SEAT, and each time dealer advice was that if it`s driving ok, not to worry.

I collected my new GTI six weeks ago, everything was great for first 2 weeks. Then the exhaust warning light came on when I started the engine on the Saturday evening. The car had nearly done 1000miles of gentle driving to run it in. I didn't drive the car on the Saturday or Sunday. I rang local stealer on the Monday to arrange to take car in, they told me they couldn't look at it until the next day and if it runs okay I can drive it gently until I take it in. When I started the car to drive to work on the Monday the warning light didn't come back on. Spoke to the dealer on the Monday telling them light had gone out, they told me to still take it on the Tuesday. I took it in on the Tuesday. At lunchtime they rang and asked if they could keep it in until Wednesday afternoon as they need more time to trace fault. On the Wednesday I received another call saying they needed to replace the fuel pump and would have to order a new one. It will be 4 week on Tuesday since I took the car to the dealer, it is still there waiting for the fuel pump to arrive from VW. The dealer tells me they still do not have a date when it will be available as they are currently out of stock:angry: I have contacted VW customer service in frustration to try and find when the fuel pump will be available, they cannot currently trace the order from the dealer  they have promised to contact me again on Monday. In the mean time they are providing me with a hire car of a similar standard a 1.6litre Renault Megan. My car is a GTi 5 door DSG.

I was very happy  with the car but very very frustrated with dealers/VW crap service/customer care.
I hope yours doesn't turn into a saga like mine and would be interested to hear if anyone knows of a good stealer in the Tyneside area???

I had this fault on my GTI about a year ago and as Andynorth says it is a fault with the fuel pump, basically when the engine is not running there is a problem with the fuel pressure.

It took my dealer a long time to diagnose the fault and an even longer time and 2 attempts to get the new fuel pump in. Once they had diagnosed the fault, they reset it and I continued to drive mine whilst they were waiting for the part to come in which took about 2 months as they said it would be fine to do so. The light never came back on in between them re-setting the fault and fitting the new part and has been fine ever since.

well....took it to the dealer but they couldnt give me a reason....they hooked it up and a whole list of faults came up !! ..he wondered had the battery level dropped at any time as that might cause the fault list....hmmm...wierd! ...they cleared all the faults and said to bring it back it happenned again....great!
