I have just fitted a 2L audi 16v lump into my mk2 16v, I have rebuilt the head with new stem seals and reground the valves.

The engine has been built up with all the old stuff that was on the car, gearbox. manifolds, WUR, Dizzy, leads, throttle body, all sensors, the oil pump/pickup and surge plate, the meetering head is the same.

The car was running fine before i took the engine out???

I have set the cams correctly. the cam and crank marks line up and the dizzy is set to zero (using the mark on the dizzy)

I am getting a good strong spark and its getting fuel (plugs wet) but it just wont fire, hasnt made any attempt to fire! not even a splutter??

please help. its driving me round the bend!

Despite your efforts it sounds like the dizzy might be 90 or 180 deg out. Try unplugging the leads from the top of the dizzy and moving them all clockwise by one position, if that fails try moving them clockwise once again and if no go once again. Firing order is 1,3,4,2 by the way.
