power steering??

Hi folks, i've been driving an '89 8valve Golf Gti since last August & it doesn't have power steering.
Bought a similar car from a scrapyard recently (euro550) for the BBS rims & other spares.
I noticed the steering is much lighter on this car.

so, my question is...was power steering an option on this model and, if so, would it be feasable to transfer it into my daily driver?

yeah it would be practical to do it, you would need to change the whole steering rack i believe, I haven't actually got round to doing one yet, but worht it, you get more feeling of the road without though. I am personally glad i have iton my daily driver.
