I had bits n pieces done, but my mate used to work for them, so I'm a little biased. They are still dedicated to the cause, but since Ian (the founder) moved on the mad creations have stopped flowing, but I believe he is still dropping VR6 turbos into the the odd Lupo on request. A mate phoned them the other day about a twin turbo conversion for an R32 and they said they weren't interested, so they may be concentrating on the basic work.Very good bunch of mechanics there though

Re: Dubsport - Ian Birch?

I have visited them, but never had any work done them since they moved from Rawtenstall Lanc's.
Think the man 'Ian Birch' sold the company Dubsport - but dont quote me on that.
He put my audi 2litre 16v in my 16v mk2 - just around the time he was building the green & orange mk1's and had the twin vr6 mk3.

The only other specialist around in the north seems to be AwesomeGTI who seem ok when I have been down to them.

Anyone know what happened to Ian and whats he doing now? Nice bloke, sorted my 16v out.

Regards
Chris

Ian birch runs andworks at blue flame done my mates exh on his rallye in january, and i also work with his best mate jaz who started at dubsport with ian and was fabricater there. Mark runs dubsport now in new place but ian still owns the old place, It a prime location apparently worth quite a lot of money cos its just of the motorway. Ask 84_mk2_golf he had engine fitted by them recently and had a nightmare with them. What you need doing may beable to point you in right direction.

Although its not my car, my mate had his mark 1 wired up from K-Jet to Digifant by them, they charged almost twice the quoted price and made a mess of the electrics, full of electrical tape in the fuse box. But to be honest thats the only bad thing I have heard about them!

I had considerable dealings with them throughout the 6 years I owned the twin engine mk1 having bought it direct off Ian.  I do not have a bad word to say about them.  Unfortunately, this shouldn't count for much as I have had very little contact with them since Mark took over.

Dubsport did my 2.0L conversion with PAS.

apparently they were having staff problems, so my motor took just over 3 months to complete not the 4 days quoted.

1st the PAS pump failed
2nd Oil was flooding out of the AIR BOX!!!!
3rd Oil was being forced out of the CAMBOX & burning (turning my car into the batmobile with the smoke)
4th I was told the guy was let go & another guy worked on my car (wow what a diff, the engine is sweet now)

Also the previous guy who worked on my car didn't tighten up my subframe, so it was knocking & I was told it was the top mounts (paid another VW guy in Southport who found the prob within 5mins) all fixed now.

Must say though evertime I noticed a fault they came to my house picked up the car & returned it.  Also gave me free engine & gearbox mounts, £60 for a clutch with fitting

ALSO through the whole process the guys were NEVER rude which I think it good

This was last November, but I don't remeber the guy who fixed all my problems, but he was spot on & from speaking to him, I think he has been fixing alot of the others guys mistakes & was starting to get a tad pi$$ed off
