Hell All

My mate bought a VR6 last year.  I think its on a P plate.

Its been pulling to the left a little and when it went in for its MOT he was in for a nasty shock,   needed springs, bearings, brake pipes and he ended up with a hefty bill.

It came back from the MOT and he has noticed that it now has a nasty misfire.

On returning to the garage,  they reckoned that a decent service would sort it.  There went more pennies.

Still didnt fix the misfire.   One auto electrician later provided by the garage and apparently he needs a new coil pack. He was quoted another £800 sheets.

Need some ideas /help/ quotes urgently guys as if Mrs mate finds out, she will insist the vr6 dies a hideous death and it will go to the big VW owners club in the sky.

Cheers

Monkey

I totally appreciate your help.  Maybe im being totally thick here.  ( I have a mk2 gti so things are easier)  but isnt the ignition coil totally different from the coil pack.

The picture in the link is of a coil pack.

Cheers

not as far as i'm aware. I may be wrong. It's a very common fault for the coil pack to go on mk3 gti's. Mine wentjust after i bought it (typical ). when I went to ECP and asked for a new coil pack ,what i got was the ignition coil. It may be different for VR's as the one in your pic has all 6 lead connections on it whereas mine had the one to the dizzie. I'm sure someone will clear it up ,probably golf-VR6.

Early vr6 engines had a coil and a rotating dizzy.
All vr6 after about 1993 had the coil pack type, which is an electronic unit, non mechanical, there is no separate coil, like this
