Help Needed

Hi guys,

I have a problem with my 1982 1.6 Golf GTI...

Everytime I make a very tight corner with my GTI the Fuel Pump stops working, and the engine stops afterwards. This occurs especially when the fuel hits Aprox Half of the deposit.

I also find very difficult to start the car from cold, with the idle around 500 RPM with the engine cold, then around 800 RPM with the engine hot.

The idle is always very nervous either if the engine is hot or cold, and the fuel pump is quite noisy.

I changed the Fuel Filter and checked the Plugs but nothing major happened.

I think the battery is about "dead", but I don´t now what else I should check in order to get this fixed.........Help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a wire or a relay issue to me... but have a look at the issue I was having on my mk1 and see if you can check the area's I did.

Get under the car and clean up all the connections to the fuel pump.  If its noisy though, chances are its on its last legs!  A pump from a MK2 GTI K-Jet will fit straight on though

You might want to look at your filler neck for rust, and replace the fuel filter, perhaps your fuel system is starting to get clogged!  A good tip is to drop a speaker maknet into the tank through the inspection hole in the back of the car, this will catch any loose rust floating about in the tank
