hi everybody. Just wanted to say that this looks like a helpful forum. I've just bought a P-reg Mk3 GTi 8v, and it had a really bad starting problem. All the lights came on, but nobody was home, so to speak. The starter motor wouldn't turn over, and it just sat there all quiet ... the intermittent thing about it was starting! It would start once in a while. However, a quick hunt through the forum suggested that either the starter motor was stuffed or there was a problem with the ignition switch - the fix, wiggle the key in the ignition. This worked! So now I know what the problem is, and I have a workaround until I can fix it! I also have a problem at 5,000rpm with what seems to be the rev limiter kicking in - again, a hunt through the forum has suggested a fix. So I've been saved an expensive visit to the garage, cause both of these I can fix myself! Thanks to everybody!
A bit about me and the cars ... I've got a Clio 182, which is possibly the most mental car I've ever driven. It seems to lose its head like a deranged, drugged-up rock star at 5,000rpm, and simply exhilerating. In comparison, the Mk3 GTi 8v is a pussy cat - but then the GTi just gets me to work and back, whereas the wife generally uses the 182 to potter around in.
Anyway, I'll be perusing this forum regularly, but in the meantime, here are both my beasts ... (if this picture thing works)
