MK5 GTI Advice Required Please
« on: 04 February 2006, 16:35 »
Hi All,

I am new here and would like some advise please. I am considering Part exchanging my 53 (12K miles) Plate toyota t-sport yaris for a Golf GTI DSG (5Door) ideally if i can get a used 05 or 55 plate. Is it preferable to get a model with leather and rear parking sensors over Sat Nav ? , also what should i be looking for in terms of discount ?

cheers

What do you need parking sensors for????

Cloth interior is more in line with GTI character.

Grips better when you go round corners too!

Discounts on GTI are possible, if you go through those internet companies.  But be prepared to wait.

nam, I agree with eric, Cloth is ten times better on the GTi than leather. Much more grippy on corners and looks cooler. You won't get your money back on any of the options you put on it (except maybe for metallic). If I were you i'd look for a late billy basic car. 05 plate, maybe 18495 with low miles in a decent colour. Remember, most nearly new GTis out there will be ex demonstrators and the dealers will have specced them up and want to get their money back. I've got a massive spec GTI DSG on a 55 up for just under 25k!

Stick to UK supplied cars, it'll cost you the same in the long run. Keep the spec as basic and as cheap as you can. A low spec car will be much more sellable and you'll end up losing less money.

Hi VWmaindealer.

You know how to make a grown man cry!

I collect my GTI in 13 days & may have made the worst decision of my life. I decided to opt for DBP, 5dr, DSG, leather, parking sensors, centre arm rest, 6-disc CD & Xenons. The car cost me a few pennies short of £26K. I got no discount, but the dealer has agreed to give me book price for my Mk4 4-Motion, 5dr, DBP (no optional extras), although they cannot provide me a P/X as the March Glass's guide is not available until next week!

Do you have any idea what PX I should expect? The car was purchased from new (July 2003) & has covered 30K miles. (The dealer advised the Feb book price was valuing the car at £10900)

I thought about selling the vehicle privately, but having searched the Autotrader on the web & calling the sellers, NONE have been sold! I have decided not too have the hassle & hope the dealer provides a decent P/X, otherwise I will not be happy.

EdMass, don;t get me wrong, teh vast majority of GTIs out there are high spec like yours. I just happen to have had a lot of people recently ask me for basic cars. I'm sure your car will look the nuts.

£10900 is exactly Glasses gude trade. No-one knows Marchs figs yet but to give you an idea it dropped £125 from Jan -Feb.  If you remind me, i'll check the March book when I get it next weekend.  Book money is good for these as we generally struggle to move them.

Hope this helps

VWmaindealer.

Appreciate your advise.

Although I am spending a huge amount of money on a GTI & understand I cannot expect to recover the cost of the options, I intend to keep the car for at least 3 years & maybe upto 5 years.

I have been very happy with 4-Motion, but have never liked the standard 16" alloys & never understood why VW did not have at least 17" as standard.

In terms of the look of a car, alloys always enhance the look. That is why I opted for the Monza 18" for my new car.

Thanks again.

Get the extras YOU want man or the car wont be the same for YOU.

I change my car every 6 months and my dealer only knocks £2000 off the price I paid no matter how many options I have.

As for the cloths trim I think its love or hate - and I hate it - although I also get it!

Reverse park sensors pay themselves the first time you DON'T reverse ito something!

Have fun!
