3dr front seats-have I missed something?
« on: 18 February 2006, 22:10 »
Just popped into my dealer today to see how my order is getting along (3dr, black,17",RCD500, cent armrest), looks like April now-week 12 build.  Went to have a quick look at the 3dr Gti sitting in the showroom, and noticed to my horror that when flipping the lever to tip the seat to gain access to the rear, the whole seat does not tip and move forward like it does on the mk 4 3dr.  Meaning you have to move the seat forward first, then flip it forward (and it doesn't flip that far either due to the coming together of the side supports on base and back rest)

Have I missed a secret button or has the mark V truly gone back to its mark I roots too far!

I've got a 3-door and the mechanism foxed me for a while, but it's better than you think! You lift the handle at the top of the seat, push the seat back towards the front (it will lock at a certain angle) and then slide the seat forward as it is now rigid and free to slide, with the seat back tilted forward. Reverse operation is to slide the seat back, pushing on the handle at the top of the seat, then use the handle to release the lock on the seat back.

The only thing that's missing IMHO is any kind of mechanical "memory" so that the seat stops at the same point you started with. Unless I've not found out how to do that yet... (A Pug 106 has this feature )

Hope that makes sense!

Hi there

THE SEATS DO HAVE A MEMORY

Next time tilt then slide seat forwards...........................

Then, to go back to original posittion, Push the seat backwards without touching the handle THEN when it stops sliding back, pull handle up to get the backrest into its original place.

That's great news.  Thanks very much.  I'll have go when I'm next in the showroom(tomorrow).

Agreed, the seat *back* has a memory, but the base of the seat will slide all the way back, which is the bit I'd really like it not to do.

But, as no-one ever gets into the back of my car, it's hardly a problem. That's why I got a 3-door in the first place

hi there

You must have faulty seats or they have been modified coz BOTH my backrest and SEAT BASE go back to there original position!

(I just double checked)
