check the switch is actually switching using a multimeter if you can, mine clicks but the switch contacts must be so worn, sometimes it doesn't work.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

You don't mean Murrays in Hatfiled do you? Bought a blue temp sender from there and it packed up after a few months. Everything else I've got from there has been fine though.

No...It is Murray Volkswagon in Plymouth.....very helpful guys actually

Right...checked the idle switch, replaced the sensor and the thing is STILL idling at 2000 RPM....

Heres a question. I have noticed that the fan on the rad isn't coming on when the engine is hot and I ALWAYS have the blinking light on the dash for the temperature.

Are the 2 connected?

I am running out of ideas and it is really starting to get to me now....all I want is for her to run right :(

  • Hello, my name is John and I'm a dub addict.
Ok after a quick MSN session, we have found that the o'ring seal for the blue temp sender was missing, and that the wiring to the throttle switch has been horribly bodged and is now broken.  Hopefully after these bits are fixed we should be on the road to recovery ;)

Thanks for all your help....traced back the wires and found a REALLY dodgy connection....replaced them with bullets for now but it has done the trick.....on to the next problem.......:)

If I recall ,the wires to the idle switch on the throttle body can sometimes break and that can cause excessive idle speeds :undecided:

this makes your idle 'bounce' up and down not idle high i know cos this happened to me

But Veedub8v am I correct in thinking that broken wires were("horribly bodged now broken") and was (at the very lease partly) the cause judging from what Rubjohnny said/posted ??
