Replacement Keys
« on: 17 January 2006, 18:10 »
Howdy doodily

When I bought my vw golf 1.6 16 v  I was given one normal key and a plastic key and has a strip of plastic which has some kind of security maybe immobiliser info on it ? ...

Now as I have only one key I want to have myself a spare. I was told to go to VW but I suspect they may cost a small fortune..? so I was wondering if anyone knew where else you can have this done I live in Laaaandon I mean London

I guess it worth having a spare incase I loose my key which I hopefully wont.

cheers

I'm suffering shortness of breath

I just called vw and they told me that I would have to bring my car to them, my car car the plastic one too v5 logbook and drivers license for them to do it and it woould cost £134.60!!!!!!!!!!

Blady hell I had to ask again as I could not believe it there must be locksmiths with the kit to do it cheaper ?

If not moral of this story is dont lose your key

I cant spend that on a key I was saving it for my flat pack coffin

forgot to add: I called around a few car key places to after a search in google every single one of them told me the same thing ... ok basically dudes and dudesses no one but vw can make a replacement key for you as they have some kind of code they they will not give to anyone else so they can basically make you pay whatever they want ... propa extortion within the realms of the law. One hell of a cost! This was just for my 2001 car not sure abot cars previous to this though.

Is it possible to buy a blank key? I believe you can use the VAG COM software to program/synchronise the key. Should be able to let you know for sure after this Friday when I pick the software and lead up.
