More likely a tree magnet issue tbh the brake bias will be all to cock not to mention the geometry and weight distribution, it's cool on a slow low beetle but not really a golf! You'll be posting about how you lost it on a corner in a week!
16X8" won't fit unless you roll/ angle grind your arches and depending on suspension and offset they will probably catch on corners! Speedbumps will become your worst enemy, all your tyres will get racing lines cut into them and it will bash and crash away at your arches. Other than that It'll be fine
