Starting Problems
« on: 02 January 2006, 18:44 »
About a week ago my golf started to sound like the battery was going flat about 3 days later it just seemed like the battery was dead, not even trying to start even just after i switch the engine off. So I got a new battery today and got the altenator checked. Same problem though still doesnt even try to start. I have to park on a hill wherever I go, its running perfectly once its push started. Any help would be great
Thanks

Tell you what . .  they are good these VW's!!! They like to keep you busy!

I would definately check the main earths from battery to body and especially the engine earths, I had the same problem a couple of years ago when the main earth corroded badly, the engine earth subsequently overheated, and I found that my clutch cable became the earth and promptly melted not good. Remove the earths, make sure the contacts/solder in the cables are still good, if not buy new from an Auto Electrician, clean all contact points with a wire brush, use a bit of copperslip to protect it and bobs your uncle.

Have you checked your starter motor out? The solonoid can jam then it wont turn at all. Do your lights or anything else electrical work when it wont start?
