Sounds like a water soaked fusebox to me - very commom, is the passenger footwell damp???

they're only about £40-£50 and pretty easy to fit, you'll probably need to replace most of your relays too which is a bit of a cnt -

don't be a muppet like i was though  if this is the case make sure you sort the leak out before you change anything  (I found a hole in my wheel arch for an aerial, why drill there you twit!!!)

Leaks through the scuttle panel are very common too, i've been quite lucky with my current mk1,as its the 1st one i've owned that hasn't needed a new fusebox (had to on all 3 previous )

i have found no dampness on the fuse box its self but my passenger foot well and rear foot well were in bout an inch deep water .. ?were would i find the scuttle panel...p.s if i was to fit a mk2 fuse box and loom in to my mk1 how hard would it be and would i get better results than the mk1 box...

 wet footwells suck, all the wires for the rear & the fuel pump are under there  - have you got a sunroof? if so theres a drain pipe that comes loose around the a-pillar and p!sses water all over the fusebox, not good!!!

 :nerd: I'd worry about this water leak more than anything else right now, even if you fix the electrics the same problems will come straight back  :smug:

The scuttle panel is the area at the back of the engine bay where the wipers and blower motor sit - check all the grommets etc.. in that area as you might be lucky and find that ones just come loose, also check for any holes made by previous owners for stereos/alarms etc... - while you're there check all the wires going through the bulkhead too

Swapping to a mk2 fusebox would be a major job and only worth doing if you're doing an engine conversion - and not really worth it then.  the mk1 box works fine as long as it doesn't get wet, like most electrics really :smug: - all i would recommend is that you use a proper audio fuse box off the battery if you're running any kind of ICE as they didn't really allow for amps etc.. it'lll overheat and get frazzled

If the tintop is the same as the cab then you should have a couple of drain holes in the scuttle panel at the wing side, these can get full of crap and dont drain the water that goes in through the bonnet grille and then leaks into the footwells, so might be worth checking that too.

Check this site out for some electrical info and other bits and bats, it's mainly for the cab, but may be of some help for you --> http://dana.ucc.nau.edu/~kaw5/electrical.htm
