The 4 mo is awesome, but if its speed your after then 1.8t all the way as this can be tuned up easily.

I have a 1.8t, just in standard 150 tune. I have driven a V5 150 (pre about 2001) and a later 170. If fuel economy wasn't an issue, i would have the 170 over the 1.8T - much sweeter engine imho. I believe suspensiion set up is as per 1.8t (sports and same wheels). Interstingly you don't get the wood with the V5 - it is same as non turbo GTi. Seems a bit strange this, I think the Germans have a strange idea of what is sporting, I'd have thought wood (sorry wood coloured plastic!) would be better suited to the V5.

This is also true in the Bora, the SE has lovely carbon style trim and the sport has walnut.... what is going on there?

The earlier 150bhp V5 doesn't really have anything over the 1.8t (maybe slightly sweeter engine) but poor mpg's don't compensate for this.....

There's only 1 winner, IMO..... The 1.8T. Easily tuned to 200+ bhp & will out drag a V6 in the dry, (haven't tried in the wet, yet, though!).

V6 4M's suffer from huge transmission loss, so aren't as quick on the road, as on paper.

Still wouldn't say no to a 4M, though!
