Buying or swaping a mrk 2 vr6 or 1.8T conversion!!!!

Hi all my brother deserted the vdub scene a year a go after doing a nice job on a Mk 2 Ryder with wheels ,body kit etc and owning a nice Mk 3 vr6 He sold out and went jap buying a late celica gt4. But he has seen the light and wants back in, hes after either a vr6 or 1.8T Mk 2 golf. So is there anyone around the nottingham area selling one or dose any one know of any garages around the area that have any for sale. He might consider a swap and cash i m not sure at the moment any replyes would be great and i will forward any info on to him cheers..........

OK  mate i went on super golf imports earlier not been on there site for probably a year they used to have loads of motors now they have one g60 for sale oh well cheers

I guess the big question is, which is better - a mk2 with a VR6 or a mk2 with a 1.8T conversion...

I'd be inclined to go down the 1.8T route, given that its lighter and a chip is all that separates you from big performance gains, should the stock T engine not be enough!  That said, I'd put a V8 into my golf tomorrow if I could!
