hi guys, i got a 85 b reg golf, its a 1.3 mk2, and i been havin probs with it recently,
its only dun 74k so i dont think the engines nackered but whats been happeneing is that at low revs the car shakes A LOT, and not the kinda shakes u get when its gna stall, these are like the whole seat chassis and steering wheel shake. it only shakes when i accelerate, and its meant i have to take it to 10 in 1st, about 25 in second gear, about 40 ish in 3rd and then i can put it into 4th, to stop the shakes,
its burning a lot of fuel and sometimes i can smell petrol from it. its had a MOT like 2 weeks ago, and i been told the cam shaft might be slihtly bent.
i changed the distrubutor cap and air filter and ignition leads and fuel lines and it still shakes.
one time in the morning when it was cold it ran like normal, but then once i parked up and then drove it again, it shook. someones told me it could be pipping, where carbon deposits build up and clog up the engine, and someone else has said i need a new cam shaft, and another saying i need a new engine block.
i dont know what is going on now, the problem just arose one day, i drove the car from london to bham, and it was fine, and a week later, this happens.
im giving it in to a garage on saturday a week from today, and jus wanted to know what u guys think it mite be, i dont want the guy jus putting and charging me for random stuff, so i wanna know at least in advance what the prob could be.
ps i also have used carb cleaner and that aint worked.
thanx in advance for ure efforts
