You know about the story of waiting for a bus in London, and when one arrives the whole f**kin' depot arrives!!

Well, it's not as if the problem with my ideling (see 'Umm, trouble with ideling' link) was too much for me to handle but jusst to add to my misery I was welcomed with the whole of my floor being drenched in water! I pressume my matrix has somehow blown! my LUCK!

Now what would you do if you were in my situation?

1) Fix the ideling problem first (p.s. I drove the car 3miles with the ISV valve cable-tied closed, and it rode ok...does that mean that my ISV is screwed or do you think i am missing the bigger picture and hiding another problem////trust me i have gone through everything it could be (please see the idle link - Umm- Trouble with my idleing).

2) Now pay attention to the water on my floor (and invest in some goldfishes, somewhere for them to swim!!).  it must be the matrix as my heater (and even the fan for cold air ) doesnt work! also when i got in the car the windscreen was really really wet from the inside. I thought it wont be the matrix but rather there may be a leak from the s/roof.  but then if i really think about it (going back to my days in school!) i think that the water from the floor must have evaporated  :nerd: and accumilated on the windsheild!  Intellegent guess or do you think im again, missing the bigger picture.

3) Drive my Gti to the nearest cliff and drop it (must have to go to Southend then!!)

Guys, obviously i love my Gti and would never send it off a cliff but to be honest im starting to lose my patience.  I drove the car for the first time in 3 months and man did it send that 'feel-good' factor down my spine.  I have a motorbike to get around (Yamaha R1) but its not the most ideal mode of transport as I freeze my nuts off!  :embarassed: I really have to get my car sorted.  Mayb i will have to give it to a garage to sort it all out (any ideas of a good garage in Essex!). :undecided:

lets actually hold a bet:  any guesses to the next thing to go wrong with my Gti (even before I fix the idleing and matrix problems!

Regarding the water problem, when the matrix fails it doesn't usually fill your footwells but just drips slowly out of the heater box. To see if it's the matrix run the engine up to temperature (so the cooling fan kicks in) and set your heater to hot (fix the fan) and put the fan on. If your matrix has failed you will get a small amount of steam coming out of the vents. Also the will be water dripping out of the foot vents at the bottom of the heater box.
Regarding the blower fan, every mk2 golf I've owned (seven) has at sometime had trouble with the blower fan, I was fixing the gf's the other week and I discovered why...............on the base............made in france!!!!! No bl00dy wonder they are crap. Anyway it nearly always comes down to lack of lubrication on the bearing or poor contact on the brushes. It's easy to remove just take of the lower parcel tray, look round the back of the fan and there is a tab you have to pull down, now twist the fan and it will come out of the housing.
To get inside unclip the metal plate with the electrical connection and unplug the spade connections inside. Now look at the housing just below the fan blade and you will see three rubber tabs spaced around the fan body. You have to push these inside and upwards with a flat bladed screwdriver and eventually you will work the motor out of the plastic body. You now have access to all the contacts, brushes and bearings. This motor is very rarely broken just needs a service, no need to buy a new one and don't be tempted by a secondhand one as it wont be any better. Mine have always run perfectly after a clean and a bit of lube.

Regarding the poor idle there are plenty of threads aboout setting up the idle in the mk2 section.

Blimey I'm a bit verbose this morning!!!

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

If you have a look in your water expansion tank you will be able to see if you have a leak. If its empty then top it up and have a look inside for water. As for the fan not working, sometimes its just the switch thats broken. Change that 1st.

Its probably a good idea to check your drain channels under the bonnet to make sure they are not blocked. This often causes leaks when it rains heavy.

As for your isv? do you mean your car runs ok if you block it completely so that its not supplying any air? If so then its getting extra air from somewhere else i.e split hose, bad connection at end (jubilee clip all conections)

Also check the condition of your oil breather hose. This can also cause idle issues if not connected correctly at all 3 ends.
