acceleration hesitation
« on: 02 October 2025, 10:09 »
Tricky one to explain but when changing gear there's sometimes a bit of hesitation to accelerate quickly and smoothly. It feels like it slows down a little and then quickly speeds up to normal acceleration (no idea whether I've explained this very well!!!)

It's as though there's a slight lag before accelerating smoothly.

It's a 2017 Golf R that I've owned since new and serviced every year. It's done 41,000 miles.

Any ideas?

Could be a sensor perhaps, have you had it scanned for any logged faults? Sometimes minor one's don't flag up an engine check light. Also, have you ever had the plugs changed, could be related if they are still original. First check for faults I'd say, to avoid chucking money at chasing an issue.

Thanks for this. Just looking back, the spark plugs were changed at 30,000 miles (March '23). I don't have a fault reader but may just buy one and check that. Beyond that is there anything else to check?

I think if plugs were done, get it read for faults, hopefully something in the memory that gives a pointer.
