The other morning when I started the car a load of alarms initiated and the car seemed to lose connection to the internet and privacy settings.

It was really strange because most of all of the assist systems failed, the rear camera wouldn't work, the radio didn't work, it lost functions such as parking sensors, road sign recognition, lane assist and loads more.

I drove it to work as this issue didn't seem to affect the way it drove.

Anyway, when I finished work later that and got in the car everything was back to normal, except that the convenience window opening feature disabled itself. I did a one touch window reset and all seems ok.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Sounds like a low battery. If the voltage is just a little low out can cause all sorts of weird electric gremlins that go away after a drive.

Sounds like just another random burp... it does happen, not often but sometimes...

If you get one of those try either rebooting the system by holding down the power button on the display OR switch the car off, get out, lock it, wait a couple of minutes and try again.

I got a similar fright early on in my Mk8 GTI ownership experience. Mine is a 2024 model, so until then I had not experienced any of the famous Mk8 infotainment bugs. However, one day I did re-enter the car after a short journey and the whole screen went blank, I got loads of loss of systems warnings, accompanied by various warning lights. After a desperate consultation with my local dealer, I was advised to re-boot the system by holding the on/off button down for 15 seconds, which did the trick.
A few months later, the same thing happened; I used the same fix successfully, only this time I realised I had inadvertently touched the infotainment system button whilst lowering the passenger side temperature and switched it off. This is very easy to do as the two buttons are very, very closed to each other, and I am sure this is what happened the first time as well. Beware!

Many thanks for your replies.

It hasn't happened again, but if it happens again I will try a reset and get the battery checked.
