I think the problem with these wheels is a break down of the connectors in them...

For whatever reason.

I doubt if the Mk8.5 has solved that and any lack of problems is just down to the age of any Mk8.5

You say that, but in 30,000+ miles I never had an issue with the wheel in my Mk8, it was a 2022MY car, so perhaps it had a revised wheel?! Or maybe the clock spring is different or something? 🤷‍♂️
