Author Topic: Alternator not charging, faulty OP valve Photos attached  (Read 790 times)

Hi everyone,

I'm in need of a little help pointing me in the right direction with my Alternator. (GTI VII 2013 Performance Launch model)

Currently its not charging immediately after what I suspect to be a blown seal on the oil pressure regulator valve, which happened due to sudden acceleration — nothing extreme (like 0-60mph) but sudden, thats when the error message came up battery not charging.

Initially I thought it was just the alternator knackered, but on closer inspection I found high pressure oil splatter/spurts on the Alt belt and pulley wheels, which is now pointing me toward the oil pressure valve thats located just below the alternator.

I haven't remove the valve yet, as I'm still waiting on the replacement part. A lot of guess work at the moment but I did manage to have my neighbour carry out a diagnostic test using VCDS, nothing came up reference the alternator or valve; however there are two engine faults that I'm not sure of.

Checked the battery with volt meter and its reading 11volts both ignition on/off, so I can confirm the alternator is not sending any charge to the battery.

My question is, could the oil have damage the alternator? Or is there slippage on the belt due to oil on the pulleys? Looking at it, it all seems to be running fine, no weird noises; no oil leaks or oil warning lights.
