Hands up…
« on: 12 September 2022, 18:41 »
… who hasn’t removed their engine sponge?

Every time I’d checked the under bonnet fluids my cover felt solidly attached, I’d read the VW blurb in the past suggesting to either remove or check the cover for fastness. Mine had always felt soundly mounted.
Last week I popped the cover off anyway and, if I’m not mistaken, I doubt the original moulding looked quite like that:

Looks like it gets a wee bit hot down there!

You'd have thought VW should have known that after the millions of cars they have built.  Poor show.  Most of us will probably never see them replaced.

I had mine forcibly removed by the dealer today.

I love how they now call recalls "enhancements"
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

Quick question. As the recall only seems to affect 2022 model year cars onwards, were the engine covers on cars built before that different or just not made to a low price like the current ones obviously are. i.e. would a MY21 Engine cover fit on a MY22 car ?

I don't think they're any different. The MK8 has never had anything other than that drab plain spongy cover.

I have an April 21 CS and mine was recalled for the engine cover, so I think they are all the same

Yeah mine is OG Mk8 GTI and its been removed under "enhancement"

I guess brand new cars delivered today don't have one at all.
