Temperature Gauge

I have only had my mk 7 a few weeks but I have noticed that the temperature rises to 90 after a few minutes and a few miles. It then stays at 90.

Any comments please or experiences as it doesnt seem normal to me.

Perfectly normal - the TSI engine exhaust manifolds heats the coolant - when I first got my GTI I was amazed how quickly it warmed up.

I’ve read on one Golf forum a while ago (sorry, can’t remember which one) that the indicated 90 degrees isn’t necessarily the true coolant temperature. The true temperature can fluctuate a few degrees either side of 90 under normal driving conditions when the coolant is fully up to ‘normal’ temperature but if it’s within what VW consider to be the normal operating range then the gauge will still show 90.

It’s when the temperature gauge starts to rise some way above or sits some way below 90 that there’s likely to be an issue - e.g. faulty thermostat, faulty sensor, sudden loss of coolant etc. But as @Adam T7 has said, what you’re experiencing is normal.

Should probably add that despite the coolant getting to 90 degrees, the car is not warmed up. You should ideally wait for the oil temp to hit 95+ before putting any great power through the engine. The coolant is just handy for the heaters.

I have the oil temp gauge as a permanent feature on the infotainment centre for that very reason👍

My biggest bugbear is that the oil temp isn't just always on the dash cluster; the only way to have it there is with the absence of anything else. Very daft.

I get that, doesn’t bother me to much though as rarely use Sat Nav and Radio permanently on Planet Rock, it’s just the press of a button to move from Car mode to whatever else though. I always have range on the dash panel.
