Accelerator pedal difference?
« on: 19 April 2022, 15:54 »
So my current MK5 manual has a large press down accelerator (not sure what it is called, like a block long thing). And my next car I am getting on Thursday has a normal looking pedal and is automatic. What's the difference? Which is easier to drive? Etc.

I owned a mk5 and mk6 Golf, both of which had floor mounted, bottom hinged accelerator pedals. My current and previous cars (both VW Polo GTI’s) have the ‘normal’ type accelerator pedal that’s suspended from the top.

From my own personal experience, I wouldn’t say one type is any easier to use than the other - it’ll be down to personal preference, and you soon get used to changing from one type to the other. Forum members who’ve had cars with both types may have a different view, but that will be down to their personal preference.

Sounds good! And if I wanted to switch the pedal is that easy or hard?

I’ve owned a mk5 GTi and currently have the mk7 gti. They are different as described above. You’ll get used to the new one after 10 miles. It’s not something you should be looking to change. What you should be looking at though is a pedalbox to improve the throttle response of the accelerator pedal.

That is good to hear! :) What is a pedalbox? Will my GTi Performance be quicker than my MK5 Stage 1?
