GTI Exhaust Tip Removal
« on: 21 August 2021, 11:51 »
Does anyone know if you can remove the exhaust tips on the 7.5 GTI? I know the R's are removable but I think the GTI have a tig weld, is it just a matter of removing the weld?

Want to get them painted gloss black.

"removing the weld"?

Why not just drop the exhaust off of the car, sand the tips and spray them if you really want to go that far.
They are welded on..

If it's a tig weld you just drill them out.

Because it's cheaper, quicker and gives a better end result by removing them and powder coating them, than painting when.

There are 2 spot welds that you would need to grind off.

There’s a guy on YouTube called ‘Last humans garage’,he has a 7.5 Gti and has done all sorts of mods to it.
He has done his exhaust tips and they look great. He originally bought some ‘Burger tips’,which slid on-or were supposed to-they are made for mk 7,not 7.5 which has a wider pipe.
He got round this by grinding off the tips, this enable the burger tips to slide straight on,I really liked these,it made the exhaust look bigger, without looking daft.
But for some reason he didn’t,he had another back box and sprayed the tips on that.
