Stage 1 remap, mods??
« on: 27 December 2020, 11:56 »
I’ve got my car booked in with jbs in chesterfield for a stage 1 remap (mk7 gti pp). Unfortunately they can’t get me in until middle of feb. The mods that I have on it at the moment are:
Racing line induction kit
Forge motorsport turbo elbow
Remus backbox delete
Now I was thinking is that enough/beneficial for a stage 1, or can people think of anything else that would help with a stage 1 map?? Whilst I was there the guy advised me that I had enough, he did say that adding a turbo muffler delete might help but apart from that he doesn’t think my car needs anything else for a stage 1

Welcome Miistadee

I’ve had a good few stage 1 cars over the decades and to be honest a lot of bolt on mods are “nice to have” but don’t really offer much over the standard parts.
The turbo elbow will possibly be quite beneficial I’d imagine when under full load.

Is the car a manual? Budget for an uprated clutch in the near future if so.
I did run a stage 1 GTI PP and stage 1 R manuals and didn’t have any clutch issues but the cars were both fairly new at the time and just about everyone else says they have clutch issues so I’ll go with that.

Make sure the air filter is nice and clean, ensure you’re running the best tyres you can get, maybe change the spark plugs if they’ve not been done fairly recently and also the oil itself needs to be changed regularly if you want longevity from the internals.

The lower engine/gearbox bushes often benefit from being uprated as you’ll probably find you suffer from wheel hop at times too.

The only other thing I can think of is adding a propshaft and driveshafts to the rear wheels so you can apply the extra power to the road more effectively but maybe you’ll want to skip that one ...
