Surely thule bars and bike carrier with option for roof box would be the solution then?

Its only as used the bikes this year far more than ever envisaged and saw this thread thats started the thinking, so guilty of not doing my usually intense diligence, aside from an early search and that myriad of returns, but Thule is obviously name recognise so now know thats a Thule option will dig into the details and see what their offerings are.
