Quick question - oil temps
« on: 21 June 2020, 08:03 »
Hi all, quick question please. What sort of oil temps are you seeing at the moment. I don’t usually check mine that often but noticed mine quickly climbs to 99-103 dec c which does seem a bit high ?

Never looked! I'm hopefully off out for a long drive today so I'll try and remember to check

I have mine on display permanently, think it’s a useful feature. (I’m a bit OCD when it comes to oil)
Temperature depends on driving conditions but it usually settles between high 90’s and 103.
Stop start traffic (remember that) sees it sit on the higher end.

Thanks guys. The only reason I ask is when I was taking the car for service the other week, on the motorway, it got to about 105C and I’ve never seen it that high before ?

On my old GTD’s they never really went much above 95C, so don’t know if it’s normal for a petrol engine ?

I'm doing a few miles around the M25 today so I'll see what it says at a steady 70.

105 is within the normal temp range based on the two GTIs I’ve owned. I’ve seen 109 before.

100-105C is the usual oil operating temperature for these cars, nothing to be concerned about.
Seen upwards of 115C oil temperatures when getting on it a bit (definitely not on the street)
