GTI mk7 noise on flooring/acceleration
« on: 04 January 2020, 20:13 »
Hi guys

I have a 2015 mk7 GTI performance pack and I have noted it has started making a noise when I floor it and I am unable to figure out what it is. This only happens in 1 and 2nd gear when I accelerate/floor initially - doesnt happen if I'm over 30mph.

I have got a video on my google drink, see link below. At 02 second you will hear a bang noise.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/13kno6O8QyfW0_OyiFG0zL7gifaGE4sMW/view?usp=drivesdk

Can you guys help and tell me what it could be? Have you heard / have this issue?

From that video at 2 secs in it sounds like the front tyres scrabbling for grip. This is widely known as tramping. What are your tyres like? Are they bridgestones? does it happen all the time or intermittent ?

Yep sounds like Wheel tramp, basically as above. Cured by better tyres, dog-bone mount and learning to accelerate properly by feeding the power in and not going the Clarkson way by flooring it.

thanks guys - i have got 19inch goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric. It doesn't happen all the time, only in initial gears.

Definitely sounds like tramping. It’s a horrible noise. How long have you had the car?

When mine does it it’s more of a thud. Is that keys or loose coins jumping around?

Couple of days a go I fitted 034 upper and lower mounts to see if it helps.

Just wondered if it is tramping as it's something you'd notice the first time you floor it in wet or greasy conditions, depending on tyre grip etc.
