Early Oil Service due message.
« on: 05 January 2020, 13:27 »
I've had my pre reg Gti since June.  Its covered 2100miles.

I used it yesterday for the first time in probably 8-10 weeks.  On startup the "oil service required" message was displayed.  The car ran perfectly.

Has anyone had this before or know why this message would come up early?  The car was registered in March so only a couple of months to go until a scheduled service.

Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.  I don't really want to be stung with a bill for resetting things.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the dealer forgot to reset the ‘service due’ reminder message as part of the PDI and it’s been counting down from the build date of the car.

If it was registered in March 2019, it could’ve been a Jan 2019 build, which would mean if its on time and distance servicing, the car now ’thinks’ the first service is due.

If you bought the car from a VW dealer, they should be able to sort you out without any charge. Everything is digitally recorded now, so the car’s history, short as it is, can be viewed.

Isn't oil change and service two different things?

I seem to remember one of mine had hassled me about one before the other...

Exactly the same thing happened with my 7.5 GTI. Supplying dealer forgot to reset the service indicator on PDI. They said it definatley didn't need a service as it was showing up on their system it wasn't due for another 3 month. Theyt offered to reset if FOC but as they are 1 hour away I did myself

Thank you for the replies.

Thats reassured me. I've checked all the fluids at they're spot on and the oil is clean.  I'll prob leave it until the service in a couple of months.

Regards

Tom

We picked up a brand new but pre- reg Mk7.5 GTI Performance in August and recently got the "Service Required" message just before Christmas, with 750 miles on the clock ( she works 2 miles down the road LOL!).

I found this trick worked fine......
