Is it possible to fit the 8valve gti head on the 1.6 driver bottom end, are the bores going to hit what else ,if this is possible theoreticelly, needs to be done.
Don't want to fit the complete engine,

yes it will fit and work fine
The 1.6 block is actually a 1.8 block with fiddled with pistons & crank to reduce the capacity to 1.6. It even has 1.8 cast onto the side of it
What are your plans for it, you planning to convert it to injection? If not you have to block the injector holes somehow (leaving the injectors in will do the job) and also worry about heating the inlet manifold as the injection head does not have a coolant channel hole.
