I had that dilemma when buying my 150 gt tdi. Think i made the right decision although the fuel economy isn't much to write home about if you like to drive fast!

Servicing, hmmm, my pd is on variable servicing, the first service was 18 thou second 8 thou and the last one will be 20 (the service reminder has just come up).  So generally around a 15 thou service, although the next service will include the cam belt change because it has the potential to over run the 60 thou mark before the  next service, so gonna be a lil pricey.  I would go for the tdi, most drives im running low 50's mpg and when we go out for a canning session with my mate in his 1.8t on arrival at the pub he's in the low low 10's and i am high 30's low 40's  so at 30 quid a tank on average we are 15 quid up on the lighter fuel burner straight away. but you do have to use the clutch a whole lot more to use it properly, so if your into working out thats a plus point too!  But b prepared for dodgy air con fans, try and find out if they have been modded.  lets be honest it dont matter either way, the car doesnt have a blue oval badge on the front so it cant be all that bad........................... ta for now shagmeister
