Automatic handbrake
« on: 07 April 2018, 21:09 »
Just had the gti serviced today and drove home parked up on the drive and before getting out it started rolling back, pulled it forward as I thought I had not pressed the brake pedal hard enough but the same thing happened, I then noticed that the auto hold had been switched off when serviced.....surely an accident waiting to happen if this is common practice.

Maybe, but i've never trusted electronic handbrakes. I always wait for the exclamation mark to show on the dash before I turn the engine off. If it doesn't come on, I give the button a quick tap just to be sure.

I am in the habit of always leaving the car in gear when I park as a safety feature in case electric brake does not activate.
After a service certain features need to be reset, such as the auto lights switch.

Lights and Aircon are always turned off but never had the auto hold turned off. I would notice that the fist set of lights I came to.

Exactly the same happened to me.  Went for a service with electronic handbrake switched on.  After the service I drove away from the dealership, stopped on a bank at some lights started rolling backwards and nearly clobbered the car behind.  The mechanic had switched the handbrake off.  A few choice words were delivered out aloud!

Yeah they always turn it off when it goes in, probably because they don't want to wear a seat belt moving it around the workshop...

You would only need a seat belt on for early mk7s. Software was changed to allow moving your car without a belt on.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

Interesting might have to hunt down the VCDS settings for that one!
