Normally (on previous cars) there has still been a vacuum in the brake servo so you can apply the brakes once with power assistance once the engine has died.

Just tried it, so doesn’t work on cruise control, so turned that off, (also heating and lights off) then found a big hill and let off the throttle. Engine rpm dropped to 800rpm, and eco in a little circle popped up (like the stop/start icon and in the same place), thought maybe the stop start conditions wasn’t right until I stopped about a minute down the road and stop/start turn off the engine
That’s on a MK7 facelift

Yeh so that’s the normal “coasting” mode.
Still no sign of start/stop on coast mode.

The engine doesn't cut it just idles and the gearbox disengages.
