Leased GTI servicing
« on: 15 November 2017, 11:33 »
About to take delivery of my GTI on a 2 year lease and want to ask the best advice about servicing.

As its a lease car on 8k miles per year or maybe a little more but no more than 10k per year I had said to the dealer to set it for long life servicing. I don't exactly know when this would flag up a service but is it a fixed two years? On that basis I would expect to service once before I return the car at two years if I understand correctly.

Dealer has come back to say their service department advice a GTI requires service every 10k or 12 months at latest but they are willing to set to long life if I prefer.

What should I do and what have others done?

It is up to 2 years or around 18k miles, whichever is sooner. If you only do 8k miles a year I would not expect that you'll get 2 years without service, maybe 15 months. I'd just get it serviced annually or at 10k (whichever is sooner). Essentially it will just come down to one additional oil change at the most.

Yes I wouldn't expect to get away the full 2 years without a service but guess my question is the difference in cost between one longlife service at say 15-18 months or potentially 2 annuals.

Alternative of course is to go annual, get the first one done a week or two late and therefore it isn't actually due when I return the car or else return the car a little early if it suits to do so.

I was told all cars are set to long life as default from the factory i actually had to ask for mine to be set to yearly servicing.

This is what they said in there email

"Non maintained, cars are set to long-life 2 years or 20000 miles"

I was asking about adding maintenance, i added it in the end as it was £18 a month extra fully maintained.

18 quid a month times twenty four seems waaaaay too high, unless it covers stuff beyond just servicing... brakes and tyres too?

They come set for longlife, my rental R was set to that.

Previous R i took out the service deal for 3 services on 10K 12 month as was a good deal which was something like £200 from memory

Not too bad if it includes tyres. You'll need at least one tyre swap, the OEM BS's last about 15k, so that's about £250 of the 450, which leaves 200 for other things, which a VW main dealer first service is most of that if you haven't bought a service plan.

Ask the lease company for their maintenance price on the car. Mine cost a whole 7 quid a month inc vat - a no brainer!
