Quick question (Golf 7.5 FL)
« on: 06 October 2017, 08:09 »
Quick question please to all you lucky owners of the face lifted MK7.5 GTD's, GTI's and R's.

On the new active info display, I've seen many occasions where when set to navigation, it can show you a map overlay (much like on the headunit), and move the speedo and rev counter out of the way. However, as this does seem fairly cluttered when actually driving, I was wondering if there is also an option to just have simplified direction arrows etc. (much like in the per-facelifted cars) ?

Yes, if you have the AID in Navigation mode, but do not check the box to view the map (in the menu on the AID) , then the map is shown on the centre screen as normal, and the AID shows arrows like the pre-FL cars did

You can have a direction arrow/pointer, don't think it shows the turn by turn instruction list as it does on the main screen.

The std nav still shows in AID but you can't have maps on both screens at the same time, not sure why you would need to that anyway. You can have (which I often use) the map in the AID showing a highlighted route and then the list of upcoming turns on the main screen.

In answer to the OP, yes you can have arrows on the AID, but they don't appear like on the old Mk7 - ie not in the MFD space between the clocks.

You need to toggle the AID mode into navigation and then the direction arrows appear in the middle of the speedo clock.

Hard to explain until you've seen it really, but that's how it works.

There are something like 5 different AID "views" each of which is a different set of info displayed in and around the rev counter and speedo. In the middle you still have the equivalent of the old MFD which can be used to display whatever you want - audio track, fuel range, telephone, you know, whatever.

I think AID is really good, but it feels very v1.0 and needs some work still IMHO.
