Boot break light
« on: 02 May 2018, 21:59 »
Few of the led’s have failed on my break light on the boot at top of window. Can these be repaired anyway or is it a case of a new unit. If it’s a new unit anyone know where to get one.

The high level brake light needs to be replaced as a complete unit. I've got a feeling it might not be a straightforward job as I've read that the rear spoiler needs to be removed.

How old is the car? LED lights are not classed as bulbs, which are consumable items, so will be covered under the warranty.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

On the mk5 u could smash the old light out if you were carefull and clip the new part in. Can imagine the mk7 to be that much different. Did it on my mk5 and even tho the screws werent holding it in it never moved once it was clipped.

I've just refused the repair on my high level brake light as I don't want the spoiler removed and then refitted. The lens on mine has just slightly been pushed in on the left as you look from back. Haven't a clue how long it's been like that, could have been from day one but I just think I'm opening a can of worms removing spoiler and fins etc for a tiny problem. I'm going to remove the bit trim at the top and check for any access holes.
